Adult Studio Workshop

Strangeness in Still Life

Classes

Sunday, June 10, 2018
11:30 am – 5:30 pm
Exhibition Galleries

Learn oil painting techniques and compose an unconventional still life canvas inspired by the exhibition Chaim Soutine: Flesh. Participants test the limits of still life content and observation as they explore idiosyncratic object and color choices.

This day-long workshop will begin with close study, discussion, and sketching of Soutine’s still life paintings in the exhibition galleries, followed by gesture drawing and painting exercises in the studio. After a break, participants will be guided through methods such as color mixing and impasto painting, building towards a still life canvas of their own based on a combination of Soutine’s observational technique and expressive formal choices.

All materials included; all skill levels welcome.

This workshop is at capacity. To be added to the waiting list and receive advance notification about future workshops, please email [email protected].
