New York, NY, January 6, 2020 - The Jewish Museum kicks off its winter/spring 2020 season of family programs in January with concerts, family days, art workshops, and more.

Musical performances this season include Renee Stahl (performing at the Museum for the first time), Oran Etkin, Brady Rymer, The Pop Ups, and The Paper Bag Players. The Sound of Color, a six-week program exploring how music and art intertwine, begins February 26. Other programs on the schedule are the annual Freedom Art Jam on April 5; drop-in art workshops every Sunday and on selected holiday weekdays; and family art activities. Oran Etkin and Friends

Jazz clarinetist Oran Etkin plays enchanting tunes from his new album, Finding Friends Far From Home, using musical instruments from Zimbabwe to China to create an international musical journey. Ages 3 and up

Brady Rymer & the Little Band That Could
Sunday, February 9, 11:30 am
Tickets: $18 general public, $14 Jewish Museum family members

Three-time Grammy nominee Brady Rymer will bring kids to their feet, dancing to his rootsy, accordion-laced pop and rock music. He will perform a selection of his greatest hits, as well as songs inspired by nature in celebration of Tu B’Shevat (Jewish Arbor Day). Ages 3 and up

The Pop Ups
Sunday, March 1, 11:30 am
Tickets: $18 general public, $14 Jewish Museum family members

The high energy Grammy-nominated duo The Pop Ups light up the stage with favorite songs, hilarious puppets, and a costume party for Purim. Ages 3 and up

The Paper Bag Players: Here We Go
Sunday, March 15, 11:30 am

The latest fun-filled production from the famed Paper Bags combines new and classic sketches, blending cardboard and paper sets, whimsical stories, lovable characters, and live music. Ages 3 - 8

Renee Stahl and Friends
Sunday, April 26, 11:30 am

Renee Stahl performs lush pop melodies and contagious harmonies in songs from her albums Simpatico and Kindred, sharing messages of family, friendship, and our connection to nature in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Ages 3 and up.


FAMILY DAY
Freedom Art Jam
Sunday, April 5, 11:00 am–4:00 pm

This festive afternoon celebrates Passover with the soulful sounds of ShirLaLa; themed workshops for kids to craft a holiday work of art and freedom posters; a giant collaborative art project; and gallery tours. Ages 3 and up


THE SOUND OF COLOR SERIES

The Sound of Color
Wednesdays, February 26; March 4, 11, 18, 25; April 1, 3:30 – 4:30 pm
Tickets per session: $36 general public; $32 Jewish Museum family members
Tickets for entire series: $200 general public; $175 Jewish Museum family members

This six-week program for preschoolers and their families, presented in partnership with the Diller-Quaile Music School, explores how music and art can intertwine. Participants embark on a thematic musical tour of the Museum’s galleries, followed by an art-making experience in the studio, where music and art come together through form, line, color, and texture. Each class includes live accompaniment with a professional musician. Ages 3 – 5


PICTURE THIS! SERIES

Picture This!
Sundays, January 19, February 9, March 15, April 26, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Tickets: $25 general public, $22 Jewish Museum Family Members

Each session begins with a gallery program that includes interactive art-viewing activities and a storybook reading, followed by an opportunity to create original artworks and a concert at 11:30 am featuring an acclaimed performer. Ages 4 - 7


DROP-IN ART PROGRAMS

Studio Art Sessions
Sundays through May 10, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Free with Museum Admission, RSVP recommended

Families explore new themes each week in these drop-in art workshops. Paint, draw, sculpt, or craft a work of art inspired by exhibitions on view. Parents can visit the Jewish Museum’s website for details. Ages 3 and up

Archaeology Mondays
Mondays, January 20, February 17, March 23, April 13, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Free with Museum Admission, RSVP recommended

Unique in New York City, the Jewish Museum’s simulated archaeological dig highlights replicas from ancient to modern times in a hands-on experience. Kids can collect stamps in a special passport each visit, and receive a gift after three digs. Ages 3 – 10

Sundays Dig Drop-In
The second and fourth Sunday of each month through May 10, Noon – 3:00 pm
Free with Museum Admission, RSVP recommended

Kids can discover a passion for ancient artifacts in the Museum’s simulated archaeological dig. Ages 3 - 10


Martin Luther King Jr. Day Drop-In Art Workshop: City Dreamscapes
Monday, January 20, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Free with Museum Admission, RSVP recommended

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, kids can design mixed-media cityscapes using tempera sticks and collage, drawing inspiration from the paintings of Jacob Lawrence and Horace Pippin on view in the exhibition Edith Halpert and the Rise of American Art. Ages 3 and up

Vacation Week Drop-In Art Workshop: Found Object Puppetry
February 16–18, 20 and 21, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Free with Museum Admission, RSVP recommended

Drawing from the imaginative sculptures on view in Rachel Feinstein: Maiden, Mother, Crone, kids can create a whimsical puppet using wood, cardboard, and found objects. Ages 3 and up

Vacation Week Drop-In Art Workshop: Freedom Mobiles
April 12-14, 1:00 pm– 4:00 pm
Free with Museum Admission, RSVP recommended

Kids can construct mixed-media mobiles, combining words and images from magazines, postcards, and collage papers to decorate homes or display during the Passover holiday. Ages 3 and up


ACCESS FAMILY WORKSHOPS
Workshops for Kids with Disabilities
Sundays, April 19, May 31, 10:30 am and 2:30 pm
Participants will examine art on view and create their own works in these programs for families with children who have developmental and learning disabilities. Workshops include gallery activities and an art project. Ages 5 - 17
Workshops for Kids with Disabilities are made possible by the J.E. and Z.B. Butler Foundation, as well as public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
